Alpha Technologies Launches New Products and Services Aimed at Supporting Growth in New Markets and Regions

April 6, 2011

Introducing new products, streamlining global service and focusing their resources on customer requirements in existing and new regional and industrial markets, Alpha Technologies says it grew its sales 41% in 2010. Headquartered in Akron, Ohio, USA, the Company is a world leader in the design, manufacture, service and support of precision rubber and polymer laboratory instrumentation, as well as data-acquisition and -analysis software systems.

Greg Clark, Vice President – Segment Leader, says the company has increased worldwide staffing by 20%, much of that in the field service ranks. Staffing numbers have nearly doubled in the Asia Pacific region and a new distribution center has been opened in Shanghai. “We’re growing where our customers are growing,” he explains. “That means we are investing in Latin America, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, India and China and Southeast Asia.”

The Tech-Pro product line, acquired in 2008, gives Alpha Technologies a line of rheometry and testing equipment that is well-suited to industrial and general rubber goods applications. The mid-tier business constitutes a large part of the rubber industry in Asia and has contributed significantly to overall growth, both regionally and globally.

To better serve those markets, Alpha has expanded its Direct Sales,
Service, and Channel Partner teams, adding several new agents in China and Southeast Asia with specific knowledge and expertise in the needs of these mid-tier manufacturers.

Alpha Technologies has expanded its presence in Europe where the company last year centralized its customer service and parts-distribution activities in Heilbronn, Germany. There, a new team of representatives – with fluency in eight different languages, provides immediate support to rubber manufacturers and processors across Europe.  To serve the Americas, customer service and technical support staff has been added at the headquarters facility in Akron, Ohio, and also in Mexico and Brazil.

100% AMERICAN MADE

Despite its increasing global presence, Alpha continues to manufacture all instrumentation products in the United States and is investing heavily in engineering and new product development. In fact, Clark estimates that the Company’s investment in engineering has doubled in the last 18 months, supporting both core products as well as new products targeted at existing and new markets.

Looking at the success of the last year or two, Greg Clark summarizes by saying, “We’ve seen a sort of snow-ball effect. Our growth from new products and services has allowed us to increase our investments in new resources in engineering, sales, service, and supply chain, which, in turn, has fueled even more growth. Still, our global objective continues to be the delivery of real commercial benefits to our customers. We explore new technologies and services only insofar as they support our customers’ drive to increase throughput, reduces costs, cut scrap and achieve a higher return on investment. That’s the real story behind Alpha Technologies mission and successful growth.”
