Seals and O-Rings
Seals are critical to the operation of your Alpha Technologies test instruments. The role of the seal is to keep a constant pressure in the sample chamber, which is essential for accurate results. Over time the seal will degrade, resulting in data shift affecting the shape of the curve. Alpha Technologies has a variety of seals designed for each instrument.
• RPA 2000 seals are made with a special fluoroelastomer to provide excellent abrasion resistance.
• Our MDR 2000 series of instruments are fitted with an upper and lower seal.
• The upper seal is made with silicone to reduce any drag on the signal.
• The lower die seal is made with a special fluoroelastomer to lower abrasion. These seals provide dry running capability while reducing friction and wear to extend life and MTBF.
Because seals degrade over time, we recommend they be changed periodically. The frequency greatly depends on type of sample and frequency of testing.
Similarly, O-rings are critical to the operation of your viscometer and rheometer. The role of the O-ring is to keep the sample chamber pressurized. Over time, debris from the samples and degradation of the O-ring will cause torque values to shift. Proper maintenance and changing of O-rings are important to maintain consistent data.
