In partnership with the University of Akron, we invite you:
Alpha Rheology Seminar
We will be presenting several topics focused on Rheological testing methods and applications. Our Team of Applications, Service and Software engineers will partner with industry experts in a 2-day informational and training session seminar.
This seminar is free of charge and will be held at the University of Akron on Tuesday, November 12th and Wednesday, November 13th, 2024. Day one will take place at the Jean Hower Taber Student Union Ballroom from 8:30 AM-5:00 PM. Day two will be at the Jean Hower Taber Student Union Ballroom and the National Polymer Innovation Center (NPIC) from 8:30 AM-5:00 PM. Coffee breaks and lunches will be provided both days. In addition, Alpha will host a social event at BLU Social on Tuesday from 5:30-8:30 PM.
On Thursday, November 14th, one-hour consulting sessions with the Alpha team will also be offered by appointment at Alpha Technologies headquarters (6279 Hudson Crossing Parkway #200, Hudson, OH 44236).

Seminar Agenda
DAY ONE – November 12, 2024
We will be taking a deep dive into Rheological principles and RPA testing applications. Topics include a refresher on rheology basics, updates on industry trends, analyzing cure properties, detecting branching issues using LAOS and FT Rheology, and more. Alpha Technologies is pleased to invite you out for dinner as our guest this evening.
8:30 AM-12:00 PM Block A: Rheology Refresher
- 8:30-9:00: Welcome (Alpha Team)
- 9:00-10:00: Overview of fundamental rheological principles: Rheology 101 with Unal Yilmazoglu: A brief review of basic rheology and warm up for more advanced discussions.
- 10:00-10:15: Stretch break
- 10:15-11:15: Introduction to advanced concepts and terminology: Rheology 102 with Unal Yilmazoglu: This brief session will build on material covered in the prior session.
- 11:15-Noon: Updates and new information in the field: with Unal Yilmazoglu: What’s evolving, and what trends do we see?
1:00 PM-5:00 PM Block B: RPA Focus
In-depth exploration of RPA (Rubber Process Analyzer) testing applications: with Unal Yilmazoglu.
- 1:00-2:00: Understanding raw material properties: How does a material show the same MV but have different mixing and processing behaviors? How can I better grade my suppliers, and know which suppliers I should choose?
- 2:00-2:45: Characterizing compounds: Is my mixing cycle optimized, and how do I know to predict downstream flow behavior and ensure forming process consistency?
- 2:45-3:00: Stretch break
- 3:00-3:45: Analyzing cure and post-cure properties: Is my cure cycle optimized, and will my cured products meet their designed performance? How do I know if my compound is mixed with the correct ingredients and the right amounts of those ingredients?
- 3:45-4:45: Branching issues and their implications: Investigating applications of Large Amplitude Oscillatory Shear (LAOS) with Fourier Transform (FT) Rheology to detect long chain branching in raw materials. We will also touch on gel detection during this session.
